As you will no doubt remember, the grain harvest of 2008 was very wet and, consequently, harvesting continued into October in some places. This limited our ability to harvest bracken since we relied for our feasibility project on conventional harvesting equipment that was still being used for the grain harvest.
First results confirm that bracken is likely to make a very good biomass fuel.
Eventually, we succeeded in harvesting almost 50 tons of bracken in total from two sources, namely the Mendip Hills and parts of Exmoor. This is now in storage in large bales (400kg and up) and we are now able to produce bracken pellets for testing purposes, including burning in our own biomass boiler.
